How to Use

1

Choose Base & Delimiter

Select binary, octal, or hex, and the delimiter for the output (space, none, comma, or newline).

2

Enter Text or Numbers

Type text in the top field to get numbers, or paste binary/octal/hex in the bottom field to get text. Conversion is instant.

About the Text Binary Converter

A web tool that converts text into the binary, octal, and hexadecimal representations computers use, and back again. Text is first encoded to a UTF-8 byte sequence before conversion, so Japanese characters and emoji (surrogate pairs) are handled correctly. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to any server.

Features

  • Two-Way Real-Time ConversionConvert text to numbers and numbers to text, instantly as you type.
  • UTF-8 & Emoji SupportProcessing UTF-8 byte sequences means Japanese text and emoji (surrogate pairs) convert accurately.
  • Flexible DelimitersPick space, none, comma, or newline for output. Decoding auto-detects delimiters in the input.
  • 100% In-BrowserAll conversion happens on your device. Your data is never uploaded anywhere.

Use Cases

  • Learning character encoding and byte sequences while coding
  • Debugging communication protocols and file formats
  • Decoding binary or hex dumps
  • Inspecting data in electronics and embedded development
  • Building quizzes, ciphers, and puzzles

FAQ

Can it convert Japanese text and emoji?
Yes. Text is encoded to a UTF-8 byte sequence before conversion, so Japanese characters, symbols, and emoji (surrogate pairs) all convert correctly. Note that one character may map to multiple bytes.
Why does one character produce several values?
In UTF-8, ASCII characters use 1 byte, Japanese characters about 3 bytes, and emoji 4 bytes. Because this tool converts byte by byte, multi-byte characters appear as multiple values.
Can it decode data with no delimiters?
Yes. With no delimiter, the input is split by the fixed width of each base (8 digits for binary, 3 for octal, 2 for hex). When spaces, commas, or newlines are present, they are treated as delimiters.
How is this different from an ASCII or number base converter?
ASCII converters map one character to one code point, and number base converters change the base of a single number. This tool lays out an entire string as a UTF-8 byte sequence in binary, octal, or hex.
Is my input stored or uploaded?
No. All conversion runs in your browser with JavaScript. Your input is never sent to or stored on any server.
Can I output hex in uppercase?
Yes. Turn on "Uppercase hex" to output hex digits in A-F uppercase. When decoding, both uppercase and lowercase input are accepted.
