How are words counted?
English words are counted by spaces. Japanese characters are counted individually.
What is the difference between UTF-8 and Shift_JIS bytes?
In UTF-8, Japanese characters are 3 bytes each, while in Shift_JIS they are 2 bytes.
How are the manuscript sheets and reading time estimated?
Manuscript sheets are based on the Japanese 400-character sheet, calculated as characters (excluding line breaks) divided by 400. Reading time uses an average reading speed of about 500 characters per minute (roughly 200 words per minute for English). Actual time varies by content and reader.
What are the Twitter weight count and the formatting buttons for?
Twitter weight counts full-width characters (such as Japanese) as 2 and half-width letters and numbers as 1, showing your usage against the 280 limit. The "Tidy spaces & line breaks" buttons let you collapse repeated spaces, remove line breaks, or trim leading and trailing spaces in one click, so you can quickly adjust text for social posts and input forms.
