About Denomination Calculation

Denomination calculation breaks an amount into the fewest possible bills and coins, such as ¥10,000 / ¥5,000 / ¥1,000 notes and ¥500 / ¥100 coins. It is handy for paying salaries in cash, preparing register change, or collecting money for a group. All calculations run entirely in your browser, so the amount you enter is never sent to any server.

FAQ

Is the denomination calculator free?
Yes, it is completely free. No registration is required; just open the page and start using it.
Which denominations are supported?
All ten Japanese yen denominations are supported: ¥10,000, ¥5,000, ¥2,000, ¥1,000 notes and ¥500, ¥100, ¥50, ¥10, ¥5, ¥1 coins. The calculation always uses the fewest pieces.
How does splitting by people work?
The amount is divided by the number of people, the per-person amount is rounded down to ¥1, and that is broken into denominations. Any indivisible remainder is shown separately, which is useful for figuring out who covers the difference.
Can I avoid the ¥2,000 note?
The tool includes the rarely used ¥2,000 note for the fewest-piece result. It is often shown as 0, and in practice you can replace it with ¥1,000 notes without issue.
Is the amount I enter stored or sent anywhere?
No. The amount and the result are never sent to or stored on any server. Everything runs locally in your browser, so you can use it with confidence.
