How is the Chinese zodiac determined?
The Chinese zodiac (Eto) is determined by your birth year. It cycles through 12 animals every 12 years: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Boar. For example, 2020, 2008, and 1996 are all "Year of the Rat".
How is the star sign determined?
Your Western star sign is determined by your birth month and day. For example, those born March 21 to April 19 are Aries, and April 20 to May 20 are Taurus. This tool determines it automatically from the date you enter.
I was born on a cusp date - will it be accurate?
Yes, the tool uses the commonly accepted date ranges for each star sign. Note that cusp dates can shift by about a day depending on the year and tradition, so if you were born on a boundary date, consider the neighboring sign as well.
Does it support the traditional Chinese lunar calendar?
This tool determines the zodiac using the common Japanese method, where the year changes on January 1. In the traditional Chinese lunar calendar the zodiac changes at the Lunar New Year, so results may differ for people born in January or early February.
Is my birthday saved or sent anywhere?
No. All processing happens entirely in your browser (JavaScript), and your birthday is never sent to or stored on any server. You can use it with peace of mind.
