About the Fuel Cost Calculator

A free tool that calculates the fuel cost and the amount of fuel needed from just three inputs: distance, fuel economy (km/L) and gas price. It can also reverse-calculate how far you can drive on a full tank, handle one-way and round trips, split the cost among several people, and compute electricity cost for an EV using energy economy (km/kWh). All calculations run entirely in your browser, so your inputs are never sent to any server.

FAQ

What is the formula for fuel cost?
Fuel cost = distance ÷ fuel economy (km/L) × gas price (JPY/L). For example, 300 km at 15 km/L and 170 JPY/L gives 300 ÷ 15 × 170 = 3,400 JPY.
What if I do not know my fuel economy (km/L)?
Check your car manual or catalog (WLTC figure), or use the full-tank method: distance driven ÷ liters refueled. A typical passenger car is around 10–20 km/L.
Can it calculate how far I can drive on a budget?
Yes. Choose the "Range from budget" mode and enter your budget (full-tank amount), fuel economy and price to get the driving range. Selecting round trip also shows the one-way reachable distance.
Can it calculate electricity cost for an EV?
Yes. Select "Electric (EV)" as the vehicle type to switch to energy mode and calculate cost from energy economy (km/kWh) and price (JPY/kWh). It is great for comparing with a gasoline car.
Is my data stored or sent anywhere?
No. All calculations happen only in your browser, and your inputs are never sent to or stored on any server.
