  • Normalize to decimal degrees for APIs and databases

FAQ

What is the difference between DMS and decimal degrees?
DMS expresses coordinates as degrees, minutes and seconds (e.g. 35°41'22.2"N) and is traditional in maps and navigation. Decimal degrees use a single decimal number (e.g. 35.6895), which is easier for programs, APIs and databases.
How do I enter South or West coordinates?
In the DMS panel, select "South (S)" or "West (W)". In the DD panel, prefix the value with a minus sign (e.g. -35 for 35° South).
Is my location data stored or sent anywhere?
No. All conversions run locally in your browser, and the coordinates or your current location are never sent to or stored on any server.
What coordinate ranges are valid?
Latitude must be between -90 and 90, and longitude between -180 and 180. Values outside these ranges show an error.
Can I convert location data from a photo (Exif)?
Yes. Enter the DMS latitude and longitude stored in your photo's Exif into the DMS panel to convert them to decimal degrees, ready to paste into maps or social media.
Does this work outside of Google Maps?
Any WGS84 latitude/longitude works with Apple Maps, OpenStreetMap and most GIS tools as well.
