About Hex / Text Conversion

This tool encodes text as a UTF-8 byte sequence and represents each byte as a two-digit hexadecimal value (0x00-0xFF), and converts hex back to text. Multi-byte characters such as Japanese and emoji are handled accurately through UTF-8 encoding. It is widely used in programming debugging and data analysis.

Features

  • Real-time ConversionConverts instantly as you type, in both text-to-hex and hex-to-text directions.
  • Flexible OutputFreely choose the delimiter (space / none / 0x) and uppercase or lowercase letters.
  • Full UTF-8 SupportMulti-byte characters like Japanese and emoji are converted accurately via TextEncoder.
  • Privacy ProtectedAll processing happens in your browser. Your input is never sent to any server.

Use Cases

  • Decode hex dumps of binary data or packets
  • Verify character encoding while programming
  • Convert hex escapes found in URLs or APIs
  • Inspect UTF-8 byte sequences of text and emoji
  • CTF challenges and debugging work

FAQ

Which character encoding is used for the hex conversion?
Text is encoded to a UTF-8 byte sequence and then to hexadecimal. ASCII characters are 1 byte (2 digits), most Japanese characters are 3 bytes (6 digits), and emoji are 4 bytes (8 digits). UTF-8 is the web standard, ensuring broad compatibility.
What is the difference between space-separated, no delimiter, and 0x prefix?
Space-separated inserts a space between each byte (e.g. "48 65 6C"), no delimiter concatenates everything (e.g. "48656C"), and 0x prefix uses the C-style notation (e.g. "0x48 0x65"). Choose whichever fits your use case.
What hex formats are accepted when converting back to text?
Spaces, commas, line breaks, and optional "0x" prefixes are detected automatically. "48 65", "0x48,0x65", and "4865" all convert to the same text.
Are Japanese characters and emoji converted correctly?
Yes. The tool uses the browser TextEncoder/TextDecoder to convert accurately via UTF-8, so text containing Japanese, symbols, and emoji is converted without corruption.
Is my input data sent anywhere?
No. All conversion runs entirely in your browser (JavaScript), and the text or hex you enter is never sent to or stored on any server. You can safely use it even with sensitive data.
