About JSONPath Tester

JSONPath is a query language for selecting specific values from JSON data. This tool evaluates your JSONPath expression instantly and displays the matching values. It supports major syntax including $ (root), dot notation, [*] (wildcard), [index], [start:end] (slice), and .. (recursive descent). All processing happens entirely in your browser, so you can safely test JSON containing sensitive data.

Features

  • Major Syntax SupportSupports $, dot notation, [*], [index], [start:end], .. (recursive), and index/name unions.
  • Safe Evaluation EngineEvaluated by a lightweight custom parser that never uses eval, so there is no arbitrary code execution risk.
  • Privacy ProtectedAll processing happens in your browser. Your JSON is never sent to any server.
  • Instant CopyResults are shown with syntax highlighting and can be copied to the clipboard in one click.

Use Cases

  • Extract just the values you need from an API response
  • Test a JSONPath before implementing it in code
  • Search specific fields in large nested JSON
  • Debug configuration files and log JSON
  • Learn and practice JSONPath syntax

FAQ

Is the JSONPath Tester free to use?
Yes, it is completely free. No registration or installation is required — just open it in your browser and start using it.
Is my JSON sent to a server?
No. Parsing the JSON and evaluating the JSONPath are done entirely in your browser with JavaScript, and no data is sent externally. You can safely test JSON that contains sensitive information.
Which JSONPath syntax is supported?
Root ($), dot notation (.key), bracket notation (["key"]), wildcard ([*] / .*), array index ([0], negative [-1]), slice ([start:end] / [start:end:step]), recursive descent (..), and index/name unions ([0,2] / ["a","b"]). Filter expressions (?()) are not supported.
What happens if there are no matches?
It displays "No matching values found." Check that the spelling, hierarchy, and array indexes in your path are correct.
Is the leading $ in a JSONPath required?
Starting with $ is recommended, but this tool also works without it (e.g. store.book[*].author). For compatibility with common libraries, we recommend including the $.
Can it handle large JSON?
Yes, within your browser's memory limits. Using recursive descent (..) on very large data may slow down processing.
