What is a vCard QR Code?

A vCard is the standard format for digital business cards, bundling contact details such as name, phone number, and email address. When encoded as a QR code, the recipient can simply scan it with their phone camera and add it to their contacts with a single tap. This avoids manual typing and typos, making it perfect for sharing contact information on business cards, at events, or on social media profiles.

FAQ

How do people scan the QR code?
Just point the standard camera app on an iPhone or Android at the QR code. A prompt to add the contact appears, and a single tap saves it to the address book. No special app is needed.
Is my contact information sent to a server?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser (on your device). Personal details such as names and phone numbers are never transmitted to or stored on any external server.
Which fields should I fill in?
All fields are optional. You can create a code with just a name and a phone number or email. For business cards, adding company, job title, and URL is helpful.
Can I use non-English names and addresses?
Yes. The data is encoded in UTF-8, so names and addresses in any language, including Japanese kanji and kana, are read correctly. Phonetic name fields are also provided.
What if the QR code is hard to scan?
Lots of data makes the QR denser. You can remove unused fields, lower the error correction level, increase the download size, or ensure strong contrast between the QR color and background to improve scannability.
Can I use the generated QR code commercially?
Yes, commercial use is allowed. QR code patents are freely available. However, "QR Code" is a registered trademark of DENSO WAVE INCORPORATED.
