What is a WiFi QR Code?

A WiFi QR code packs your network name, encryption type and password into a standard format (WIFI:T:WPA;S:...;P:...;;). Scanning it with a phone's built-in camera connects to the WiFi without typing the password by hand. It is perfect for cafes, rentals and office guest WiFi. Everything is processed inside your browser, so the password you enter is never transmitted anywhere.

FAQ

Is my password stored or sent anywhere?
No. All processing, including the SSID and password, happens only in your browser (JavaScript). Nothing is sent to or stored on any server, so you can use it with confidence.
Which phones can scan it?
The built-in camera apps on iPhone (iOS 11+) and Android (roughly 9+) support WiFi QR codes. Point the camera at the code and tap the connection prompt that appears.
Which encryption type (WPA/WEP/None) should I pick?
Most modern routers use "WPA/WPA2/WPA3". Choose "WEP" for older equipment, or "None (Open)" for public WiFi without a password. You can confirm this in the router settings or on its label.
Does it work with hidden (stealth) networks?
Yes. If your SSID is not broadcast, turn on "Hidden (stealth) network". The device will then try to connect to it as a hidden network when scanning.
What if my password contains symbols like ; , : or \?
That is fine. These special characters are automatically escaped according to the QR code specification, so passwords with symbols connect correctly.
Can I use the generated QR code commercially?
Yes, commercial use is allowed, including signage and printed materials. Note that "QR Code" is a registered trademark of DENSO WAVE INCORPORATED.
