About the Markdown Table Generator

Markdown table syntax is fiddly: lining up pipes (|) and dashes (-) by hand is tedious. This tool lets you build a correct Markdown table simply by typing into a spreadsheet-like grid. It also supports importing CSV/TSV and exporting HTML tables. Everything runs in your browser, so your table data is never sent to any server.

Features

  • Editable GridEdit cells directly like a spreadsheet. Add and remove rows and columns freely.
  • Per-column AlignmentSet each column to left, center, or right. Markdown alignment syntax is added automatically.
  • CSV/TSV ImportPaste a table copied from Excel or Google Sheets and import it instantly.
  • Markdown / HTML OutputGenerate both Markdown and HTML tables, and copy them with one click.

Use Cases

  • Add tables to GitHub README files and Issues
  • Put comparison tables in blog posts (Markdown CMS)
  • Paste tables into Notion or Obsidian documents
  • Convert Excel data into Markdown format
  • Build spec tables and API lists for technical docs

FAQ

Is the Markdown Table Generator free to use?
Yes, it is completely free. No registration or installation required. Just open it in your browser and start using it.
Is my table data sent to a server?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser (JavaScript). Your table data is never sent to or stored on any server.
Can I set text alignment (left/center/right) per column?
Yes. Use the alignment buttons at the top of each column to choose left, center, or right. The matching Markdown alignment syntax (:---, :---:, ---:) is added automatically.
Can I import tables from Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. When you copy a cell range from a spreadsheet, it is usually placed on the clipboard as tab-separated values (TSV). Paste it into the "Import from CSV/TSV" box and click Import; the delimiter is detected automatically.
Can I include a pipe (|) or line break inside a cell?
Yes. In Markdown output, pipes are automatically escaped as \| and line breaks within a cell are converted to <br>, so the table stays intact.
Can I see the result update in real time as I type?
Yes. Editing cells, changing alignment, and adjusting the number of rows or columns are all reflected instantly. The live preview at the top and the Markdown/HTML output below update automatically, so you can check the result before copying.
How many rows and columns can I create?
You can set up to 50 rows and 20 columns. Type the values directly into the Rows / Columns fields, or use the "Add Row" / "Add Column" buttons to add them one at a time. CSV/TSV imports are also clamped to the same limits automatically.
