About the Favicon Generator

A favicon is the small site icon shown in browser tabs, bookmarks, and search results. This tool turns a single image or one character/emoji into PNGs from 16×16 to 512×512px, a multi-size favicon.ico, an iOS apple-touch-icon, and Android/PWA icons all at once. It also outputs the matching HTML <link> tags. Everything is processed in your browser with the HTML5 Canvas API — your images are never sent to any server.

FAQ

What source image works best?
A square PNG or SVG of at least 512×512px is ideal. Simple, easily recognizable designs work best at small sizes. For non-square images, use "Contain" to add padding or "Cover" to fit the center.
Can it create a favicon.ico?
Yes. It generates a real favicon.ico containing 16px, 32px, and 48px, available as a standalone download or inside the ZIP. This ensures reliable display in older browsers and admin panels.
What is apple-touch-icon?
It is the 180×180px icon used when adding a website to the home screen on iPhone/iPad. This tool generates it automatically along with the matching <link> tag.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All processing happens in your browser via the HTML5 Canvas API. Your images and text are never sent to or stored on any server.
How do I install the generated favicons?
Place the files from the ZIP in your site's root directory and paste the generated <link> tags into your HTML <head>. A site.webmanifest is included for PWA support.
Can I make a favicon from an emoji?
Yes. Enter an emoji in the "From Text / Emoji" tab and it will be rendered into a favicon using your device's emoji font.
Which sizes do I actually need?
At a minimum, a favicon.ico (containing 16/32/48px) plus a 32px PNG covers desktops and major browsers. For full mobile support, also include apple-touch-icon (180px) and the 192px/512px Android/PWA icons. Use "Download All (ZIP)" to export every size plus a site.webmanifest and the ready-to-paste <link> HTML in one go, so nothing is missing.
Can I create a transparent PNG favicon?
Yes. Tick "Transparent" next to the background color in Settings and each size is exported as a PNG with a transparent background. Note that while favicon.ico supports transparency, some older browsers may render the background as black, so if you rely on transparency it is best to also keep the PNG <link> entries.
